Grilled Lemon Chicken Wraps with Spicy Garlic Sauce
Simple and delicious, grilled lemon chicken wraps are the perfect summer meal. Tender chicken, spicy garlic sauce and soft flatbread – yum!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ohh my goodness! Mel! I’ve made so so so many of your recipes over the last few years (and loved them ALL) but this was, dare I say, the best thing I’ve ever eaten in my life. I don’t have adequate words to express how delicious it was. -Holly
Why These Wraps are My Favorite Meal Ever
It’s hard to adequately describe my love for this meal. I take my birthday dinner very seriously, and it is telling that I’ve made these grilled lemon chicken wraps for nearly every birthday dinner of mine for the last ten years.
Here are just a few reasons, I think these wraps are one of the best meals ever:
- I love that all the components can be served separately so all everyone can assemble their own wrap how they like it. Great for families and picky eaters!
- The chicken can marinate for up to eight hours, making this a great meal to prep earlier in the day and grill quickly at dinnertime.
- The creamy garlic sauce is reason alone to make these wraps. I dream about this sauce (and make it for lots of other grilled recipes, too). It can be as mild or spicy as you like and can be made up to a week ahead.
- Most importantly, this entire meal is just ridiculously delicious. The juicy lemon chicken, soft flatbread, fresh vegetables, and creamy garlic sauce combine into one of my favorite meals in the history of ever.
Key Ingredients Notes
The ingredients for these wraps are very straightforward, and there are several crossover ingredients between the chicken marinade and the sauce. Read below for a few important notes about substitutions and variations.
- Chicken: The chicken is marinated and then threaded onto metal skewers for grilling. Boneless, skinless chicken breasts or chicken thighs can be used. Cut them into 1-inch pieces before marinating.
- Fresh lemon juice: This ingredient is used in the marinade and in the garlic sauce. Be sure to use fresh lemon juice, not bottled, for the brightest flavor.
- Garlic: There are a lot of recipes where I would indicate that garlic powder is a fine substitute for fresh garlic, but in this recipe, I highly recommend using fresh garlic. It amplifies the flavor in both the chicken and the sauce to delicious levels. I often use the frozen cubes of garlic paste with great results (it is just as flavorful as fresh garlic).
- Pantry spices: You’ll need dried oregano, ground cumin, and paprika for this recipe. For the paprika, sweet or smoked paprika can be used.
- Flatbread: Store bought or homemade flatbread or pita bread can be used in this recipe. Choose a bread that is soft and pliable for holding the chicken, veggies and sauce.
- Mayonnaise + Greek yogurt: A combination of mayonnaise and Greek yogurt is used to achieve the creamiest sauce.
- Sriracha sauce: Don’t be afraid of the hot sauce for the creamy garlic sauce! It adds depth and dimension to the sauce, and you can dial up the hot sauce for a mild or spicy end result.
Homemade Flatbread Recipes: This is one of my go-to recipes for homemade recipe for flatbread. Here is a sourdough version and an easy yogurt version.
I think it’s impossible to have a bad day when I know I’m going to be eating this for dinner. Is that weird? Or just a really good coping skill? (My children are currently chiming in saying we should eat these every night for dinner and then maybe Grumpy Mom will cease to exist 😜).
So many of you have fallen in love with these wraps over the years, and every rave review I read makes my heart incredibly happy. 🫶🏼
While these wraps make an excellent summertime meal, we make them year round, too. I either brave my way in the cold to the outdoor grill or I pop the cubed chicken (sans skewer) into the air fryer or cook in a skillet on the stove. So, so, so good.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love these wraps! I cannot get enough! Thank you for another homerun!! -Natalie

Delicious! We added cucumber and feta. The sauce is really good just as a veggie dip too! I think the chicken would be good on pasta too.
Incredible!! These are so yummy and easy. My family loved them. I used storebought flatbread and grilled each piece a bit before we ate. I also used grape tomatoes cut in half and the Trader Joe’s herb salad mix for the lettuce….so yummy!!
This is one of my all-time faves, so I’m thrilled you loved it!
This chicken is so good! I ended up not having time to skewer and grill the chicken, so I just cooked it in a skillet and it turned out great! I also used bottled lemon juice and no zest because that’s what I had.
I can’t remember if I have already posted a review for these or not, but we had them again last night and this is my favorite meal. If I got to choose a meal this would be it. My family all enjoy it to, but probably not as much as I do!
Thanks for leaving a comment on this recipe, Tara! It’s one of my favorites, too!
Love this recipe!! I keep shredded rotisserie chicken on hand from Costco to make a quick version of this during soccer season. I mix up the marinade and pour it over the shredded chicken. My kids LOVE it and that sauce is SO good!
Love the shortcut with rotisserie chicken, Lisa – thanks for the details!
We love this recipe! We have had it several times this summer. It has been easier for me to keep the chicken whole, grill it and then cube it. It tastes delicious. Thank you!
Got fresh pita from the international grocery last night and I’m so excited to use it with this! We don’t keep sriracha on hand and don’t like things *super* spicy, so I was wondering if replacing the sriracha in the sauce with sweet thai chili sauce would work as a sub? Thanks!
That should work great, Caitlin!
AMAZING recipe! My wife and I have cooked this one for years, along with the related lemon cream pasta recipe where you use the same chicken. One of our favorite for sure!
One random idea in case it helps anyone. We now do a quicker, alternate version sometimes where we just make the garlic sauce, and use Wegmans lemon chicken strips, to make flatbread wraps. Mel’s chicken definitely wins out, but it’s still pretty solid for when in a pinch.
Also, regardless, we have found roasted red peppers are a really good topping to pair with this.
Mel is the best!
Thanks so much, Ross! Glad you love this one – thanks for sharing your variations!
please tell pizza respie for a party in India
Everyone loved this! I doubled the recipe and there were no leftovers. It works great in a cast iron skillet too.
I love these wraps! I cannot get enough! Thank you for another homerun!!
I had some extra lemons, so I decided to give this recipe a shot. It was sooo good. We don’t have a grill so we just cooked the chicken on the stove top and we dipped it and the flatbread in the sauce. I am definitely saving this one for later!!
We had a totally Mel night here. I made this as well as your flatbread and Mediterranean quinoa salad. My family couldn’t stop telling me how good dinner was. My 19 year old literally asked if he could have the garlic sauce later on “all the things” lol. My husband loved the flatbread and my daughter the chicken. Win! Win! Win! Thank you
